Today I

Flew home from Indiana.  We had gone back to see Grandma.  We had gotten word a few weeks ago that, if her new chemo wasn't working, she'd have little time.

I'm glad we made the plans when we did, and I'm glad we went when we did.  She declined pretty fast in the three days we were there.

When we saw her on Sunday, Kel and I got to surprise her with the news that we're expecting another one.  Everyone in the family was stunned, and grandma was thrilled that we told her first.  So happy to have given her that boost.

Johann was a bit nervous about being around her, and understandably so, with the oxygen, etc.  It was sad in some ways, that he just doesn't know that this was his last chance with her.  He just doesn't know.  But he settled down enough for grandma to give him kisses.  She watched him laugh and play and interact with everyone in the living room, from her new bed, and she smiled.  She made faces with him when he made some faces for her.  She played with him.

She told me she loves me, that she and grandpa will always be with us.  Told me not to fight, to always look after each other.  That my mom has worked hard. That she'll miss us, that she doesn't want to go, and has things to do.  I suppose that's a good thing.  I better not run out of things to do or reasons to be here.

Today, I whispered in her ear the secret of my fortune with the IPO.  I told her not to worry about mom, because the IPO made me a m.....  I want to always remember the look she gave me.  It was both a smile and a super sly look of pride.  As if to say "I'm thrilled, and also, you fucker for not telling anyone, but also, so awesome that you didn't tell anyone".  She told me it made her happy and made her not worry about my mom so much. She asked me to look after her and the others, and I told her I have broad shoulders.  She also told me to make sure mom picks up after herself. I think she was half joking.

I promised her we'd all always be close, that the cousins are all tight and would remain so.  I credited her and grandpa with my success, as they're the ones who pushed for education, and helped fund mine.

In her time with Kelly, grandma put her hand on Kelly's abdomen, in a little moment of giving some great grandma love to the new one.

Grandma told me yesterday not to worry, that if she didn't like it, she'll come back.  I laughed.  Today I told her to hug Grandpa for me.

The only thing I ma have left unsaid is that there's always a path back for Uncle Bob, but I know she knows this.

I wore my pink heart today.

On the plane home, Kel and I had middle seats on opposite sides of the aisle.  The lady next to me was very kind, she has a 7 month old.  People were pretty good to us.  Johann was pretty cute.  The lady next to me was less thrilled, but it made me a bit more positive about humans.

I don't know how much time I have with grandma. There's no one in the world who loves me like she does, and I tolde her.  She said "darn right".

Today "who will make the cookies?"  Told her I'd think of her, especially at Christmas.  I'll make cookies with Johann and talk about her.  Maybe my mom will do that with him, too.

Today I

  • Pulled a 1:21.0 for 30 seconds
  • Helped Johann to stand on his own in the front yard.  He then took three steps towards me, and fell onto me, hugging my neck. It was perfect.  He's going to be OK.

Today I

  • Tonight, Johann was on the back patio after dinner, and was curious about a not-quite-ripe tomato near the door.  He had just seen me bring one in. I told him that no, we can't pick it, we have to wait, and he got a bit upset.  So I offered him the chance to pick the other tomatoes, the cherry tomatos.
  • I gave him one, and he of course, squished it right away.  Then I tried to pop one directly in his mouth, and he found this hilarious.  So we played that game for a while, me trying to put it in his mouth, him looking incredulously at me and laughing.
  • When Kel came out, I thought I'd show him the tomatoes were for eating by giving it to her.  She ate is.  Johann thought this was funny, and wanted me to do it again.  I did.  Still funny.
  • Kel went in, and Johann and I picked a few more. He eventually ate some.  But then I picked one, and he said "Mum!".  I carried him in to where Kel was sitting at the kitchen table, writing email on her laptop announcing her new job to her current consulting partners.  Johann held out the cherry and put it in Kel's mouth.  Then signed "more, more!".
  • So we spent the next 15 minutes back and forth to the garden and the house, Johann sometimes eating some (and squirting seeds all over himself) but generally preferring to give them to Kelly, and sometimes to me.
  • As we had picked nearly every available tomato out there, I brought him back in, and we were playing onthe white couch.  I had a few tomatoes in my hand.  I gave Johann one, while he was standing.  He chose to put it in my mouth.  So sweet.  I told him "thank you" and he gave me the sweetest hug, snuggling in and patting me like a giant friendbeast.  Then he grabbed my face, gently, and put a kiss on my cheek.  It was just the best.  Felt like his way of thanking me for the fun in the garden.
  • I planted those cherry tomatoes with the sole hope of Johann picking them and liking them.  I wanted him to have memories of them, and I really hope tonight will have helped make that happen.  it was all worth it.

Today I

  • Got up with Johann, and gave him cereal and milk. He wasn't too interested, but he did sign "cereal".
  • On Saturday, we got into the car at the grocery store after shopping, and he pointed forwards wanting something. He was pointing to the sun roof.  I asked him if he wanted it opened, and he signed "open".  He was very happy when I understood and we drove home with the sunroof open.
  • While grocery shopping Sunday I opened the box of cinnamon toast crunch for him and gave him some while shopping.  He signed/ asked for "fruit", so I let him have a nectarine. He tried to bite it directly.  Didn't work, but it was cute.
  • Kel came home from her swim today, asked what I wanted to do with my day, and I thought of going to the exploratorium.  Because it was a little rainy today.  Johan was crawling outside with me when it came down a bit.
  • The exploratorium is really cool, but probably for bigger kids. Still, had fun with little man in the pack, and letting him crawl around on the deck outside.  I got a bit sunburnt chasing after him.  We tried to feed him lunch, and he took down some of it.  Got burritos on the drive home. Johan slept most of the way home.
  • I tried to put in the latest electronic cat door.  Made progress, but still not 100% done.
  • Johann kept asking for my beer tonight.  He'd die laughing after each sip. His face turned red, and he'd just laugh.
  • Johann asked for a bath, and I gave it to him. Then some naked time on the bed with Kel.
  • I tried to read him "three little kittens" but not very interested.

Today I

  • Got up to go do the weight circuit.  I'm really flying through it these days, not struggling much. I hope it turns into good results on the erg.
  • Home.  Kel was up and little man was still in bed.  I had some cereal, he woke up, I fed him a morsel of granola on his way out of the bedroom.
  • I had a technically difficult webex with a possible BI vendor,soI didn't get much time with Johann in the morning.
  • Watched Holland lose on penalties to Argentina in the semi.
  • Made big progress on smoothing coefficients. Kelly took care of munchie tonight, though I took brief breaks to play with him.  He laughed his tail off chasing me and kel down the hall with his weighted push cart.  I signed "chase" and "play" for him.  Later on, he signed "car" wanting to go outside and play with the EV's plug again, so I think he has that sign down.  I also took him for rides in the blue car in the side patio.  He seems to understand what we say very well now, even thugh his expressive vocabulary is limited.
  • Had some delicious 3 twins chocolate peanut butter cup for dessert, along with sushi for dinner.  Yummy night.

Today I

  • Steered the 4-, with breard, JJ, McHugh. I got us to relax our front end, place together, then push, and we basically beat everyone all day.  I got major kudos for the coaching/ coxing from the bow.
  • I took little man to daycare, and did a quick hand off to Xana.
  • Found out form work that Paul S may want to move the sales analyst staff to my team, finally.  Shocker.  I'll need to be gracious and good.
  • Johann's PT came by for the first time today. She's largely assessing him.  she thinks a lot of it is core strength, and he needs to get some leg strength too.  We'll have to work with him every day. She'll send exercises.
  • Johann's signing is coming along great. He does "flower" and "eat" very well.  He's enjoying being able to ask for what he wants.  It's great to see him connectin the dots.
  • I worked late on an SQL problem.  It was tough, I didn't get much time with little man. I think I finally got it, though.  Will help me tomorrow.

Today I

  • Woke up in the tent in the side yard with Johann.  I set it up yesterday, and showed it to him, and he was ok with it, but not super interested.  I put the air mattress, but also the orange mats, and then Kel put just about every pillow in the house around the air mattress.  When it was time to go in, all three of us went in, but once he got fussy and needed to settle in, Kel left us.  He kept crawling for the door, but then I told him we were sleeping there, and he followed my lead.  Eventually he drifted off to sleep, and so did I.  He woke up in the night crying, i think he was a bit cold, even though we dressed him in a pretty fleecy- sleepy suit. At first he didn't want to be covered with his blanket, but then he settled in on top of me, and fell asleep.  We slept like that a bit, him on my belly, me on my back.  Eventually he moved off, next to me, and i could cover him with my blanket, and he did fine.  He just slept perpendicular to me, which was tough, but I managed.  It was a successful night.  He really liked the head lamp.  Was super excited about the light.  This morning I bounced him on the air mattress.
  • Kel went to swim, so I took mini man to see about the beer judging.  Turns out it wasn't awards, but judging happening that day.  So I took him ot he farmer's market in the pack.  I think he got sunscreen in his eye, it was red and teary, poor guy.  We got a roasted chicken and potatoes, and KEl eventually found us over there, after missing finding us the first time.  I got two tomato plants, a black cherry and a pineapple.  WIll eb interested to see what I get.
  • Johann fell asleep on the way hiome, and I managed to get him out of his seat while still asleep, and into his crib, where he slept for about 3 hours.  I'm guessing he didn't have the greatest night sleep last night.  Good to note for future camping.
  • I packed up the tent this afternoon.  It was nearly 100 today. I also transferred all the medicinal plants to their final pots.  They seem to be doing OK.
  • Kel made a Tahi curry with coconut rice for dinner, and it was good.  Johann inhaled his and wanted more.  His signing is getting better, and he's using "yes" more spontaneously, and seems to understand "flower" and can say where his head is when asked.  This is good.
  • Kel announced that she needs more cookies so I baked a batch for her.
  • Jon and ROmi came over to wath season 4, ep 9 of game of Thrones with us.  Jon brought a blackberry sour from Almanac.  SUPER sour.  Very tart.

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

Today I

  • Slightly late to the boat house for the weight circuit.  I started on station 3 with Tom Peters and Brian Kelly.  I managed to move though without too much trouble, but by the time I got to the front squats, my lower back- IT band area was pretty shot.  There's something I'm doing which wears it out, and then I'm just done for the circuit. I managed the pace, etc for everything else OK, but I need to drop my splits on the 30 second erg.
  • Got home and munchie had been up with Kel since 6.  He wanted Oliver to go along in his daycare bag. He kept trying to put Oliver in there on the way out, and he looks for Oliver there when I pick him up.  He was a bit sad when I left him at daycare.
  • My back was killing me, so I ended up napping accidentally after I lay down to rest it.
  • I worked on helping Dina realize there was a problem with some tables, which is why her SQL wasn't working.  I felt useful, once more.
  • I reviewed some designs for a mortgage calculator. And tried to write somemethodology stuff.
  • I picked up Johann and tried to take him to the park.  Once more, he doesn't want to be down, he wants me to hold him, and he just kneels and cries that I don't hold him.  He doesn't want a hug, or to try to walk, he just wants me to hold him.  I almost left, but gave him a shot at the swings.  That didn't go too well, either.  I put him down in the grass with all the clovers, hoping the flowers would distract him.  It sort of half worked, he was interested in the kids playing on the big kid gear who had arrived in their dad's bike trailer.  It was enough to get him to stop grumping.  He played with a clover, and I made the mistake of taking out my camera to take pictures.  He saw it, and then wanted to get it from my cargo shorts pocket.  I tried to distract him with cheese stick, which worked a bit, but he wanted me to do something with the half eaten stick, and I had no idea what he wanted me to do.  He got frustrated, though, and so we left.
  • Back home, Kel had made his dinner, and she fed him.  It's hard to get him to not beg to be picked up and to also not sit on his MCLs, so we focus on one thing at a time.  He ate well while I tended to the garden a bit.
  • I talked with Jim on the phone about hotel bookings for IN. That seems mostly set.

Tuesday, June 3, 2014

Today I

  • Up to row.  4- with Alan, (dude from Saugatuct) me in 3, and Noah stroking.  We did ok.  Lots on 1' on, 1' off stuff.  By the end our on @ 30 was decent.
  • Gave Mike Stralka the dry hopped saison.
  • John Zorn gave me a kid carrier backpack suitable for a larger child.  This will be great for Johann.
  • I hustled home, got Bug up.  I made the first squash flower of the year and gave it to him, along with some leftover batter pancakes.  He ate them all. I put him in a dark blue shirt and some corduroy.
  • I got online and helped set up the framework for agent-facing development projects to get done.
  • I booked my London trip for post-Indiana.  I feel a bit nervous about Kel going home solo.
  • I got little man from daycare.  He had a hard time again tonight with me not picking him up on demand.  But after a big stand off, he settled down, and then got down to playing, and it was pretty good.  I offer him hugs, but I won't pick him up, so he's got all the comfort and snuggling he could want. I don't want him to feel abandoned.
  • Kel fed him some of the chicken and corn from Sunday, and then later he had some of my spinacha nd eggs and mushroom scramble.  He really liked it.
  • I saw him climb up onto the grey couch for the first time.  He's really good at it.
  • I mae butternut squash soup.  Didn't get to eat any, but that'll be for later.
  • Kel got news on her knee.  Meniscus tear that may be fine on its own, so will wait it out.  But she also got news that she'll probably need kneecap replacement at some point, because there's so much wrong with her knee. She had a scotch when she got home.  I think in the future, she'll have better knees than now.  Just need to find the right surgery.  She wants to get a bit lighter still, which is probably safe to do and could make it a bit easier on her knees, for sure.

Sunday, June 1, 2014

Today I

  • Slept with Kel for the first time in a while last night.  She's back to sleeping well enough in the night that it's not disruptive for me to be with her.
  • Up for Kel to go swim. Fed little man "life" cereal which he liked to dip in yogurt. He fed himself OK with it.
  • While Kel was out he did manage to sign for "flower" with a small prompt and then nodded "yes" t confirm.  So we went over to the flowers and he got to touch them.  I never know if he got lucky, or if he means it.  I hope it's progress.
  • I set up the brown tent yesterday for Johann to experience so we could possibly try some camping.  He was mildly interested.  Didn't hate it, but it wasn't the most astounding thing, either.
  • Kel fed him lunch of some synthetic kids pasta, which he soundly rejected.  Thank goodness.  He napped, Kel napped.
  • Skyped with Jenni Dearlove. Ceci did some solo standing.  It's hard to watch kids developing at a normal pace, who are 6 months younger and doing things Johann can't do.  It's making me really nervous.  People say he'll catch up, and I think that he will,I just worry there's something wrong that we don't understand yet.  I hope there's not, but it's really hard not to worry.
  • Kel watched munchie while I did a 20 min "aggressive" piece.  managed 5477m, or 1:49.5 average,  i was aiming for 1:50, and it was pretty hard, especially the last 4 minutes or so.  I reminded myself that I go faster than this for 10k when I'm trained up for it, so I held on.  I'll need to start working if I want to be compelling for HOCR.
  • Tyler & Rebecca and Family came over for dinner.  SO good to see them all again.  I cut up pineapple and grilled dinner.  Chicken thighs, which I had to try not to catch on fire, but still tried to get cooked, and mushrooms and asparagus and corn.  Good stuff.  Tyler still assumes I know more than I do.  He's kind and clever.  I kind of which I had stayed in school longer, done the Dr of something.  But nothing interested me enough for that, I don't think.
  • Little man just woke up at 11.  I think he had a bad dream. I gave him some milk and some snuggles and let him go back to sleep.

Wednesday, May 28, 2014

Yesterday I

  • Rowed the 4+ with tyler, Raoul and Alex D.  I was in 2.  It was fun.  We did lower rate pieces lots of pause drills, and we were generally faster than the 4-'s around us (with older crews).  A lovely morning with calm water.  I noticed that I couldn't distinguish the rocks from their reflection in the playpen on the way out, conditions were that smooth.
  • I hustled home to get Johann up as Kel's knee is in rough shape.  We hustled over to the East bay for his speech therapist appointment only to find the building was closed.  The text I got the night before was cryptic, and I didn't understand it was from kaiser.
  • We dropped him at daycare, and I did very little work until Kel asked me to go with her to her Orthopedist appointment.  He offered MRI or drainage, and I think MRI is best.  Let's learn what's going on. We got Subway on the way home.
  • Johann had his 18 month checkup, and is following an expected growth curve, but is just super small.  No word on the developmental stuff.  At this point it's less about looking for causes and more about treating the situation.  I'm hoping we can help him, but it's feeling pretty desperate. I want him to catch on.
  • I took care of him and kel last night, feeding him the "salmon shepherds pie" from when Jon and Romi cooked for us.  He ate OK.  We worked very hard on words, and he may have gotten "more" ("mo").  It was inconsistent, but we tried to reward it with a response. He did go straight to the flowers in the back yard (purple and tiger lily) when I just gave him the spoken cue that I wanted to see some flowers.  He picked a rose with his bare hands in the front yard, which we brought in.  He wanted it through out the meal.  Placed it in a tulip glass.
  • Slept with Kel, who had a rough night sleeping,  Lots of snoring and tossing and turning.  I think I'm on my own for a while.

Monday, May 26, 2014

Today I

  • Up before 6 with kel, who couldn't sleep well at all due to her knee.  It was clear she needed to go to the ER, so we both split up communication wioth the BBQ guests for today, whom we notified that we had to cancel.  She went to the Er, I stayed home with little man.
  • Fed munchkin eggs, which I'd made for Kel, and some mango babyfood.  Johann was a bit puzzled when Kel came home, seeing her on crutches. Kel sent us out to the Pharmacy to get her script filled.
  • Put mini man in a cart, and drove around the store.  Got him matchbox cars, and ritz crackers.
  • Home, tried to get Kel her meds.  She was sick to her stomach.  Bad news.
  • Fed little man pizza for lunch, but he didn't really go after it.
  • Got him down for a nap, made Kel a tuna sandwich, that didn't go well for her.  Jon and ROmi stopped by to see how we were doing, and they offered to cook dinner for us.
  • Plunked Kel on the couch watching national Lampoons family vacation.
  • gave Johann peanutbutter on ritz crackers for snack.  He liked it.
  • I realize how much tidying Kelly does.  Place is just gross without her help.  I try to keep it clean, but little luck.

Tuesday, May 13, 2014

Today I

  • Turned on the fan to cool the house further when I got up and left for the boat house.
  • Stroked the 4- with Bjorn in 3, Raoul steering, Steve Johnson in 2.  It was decent.
  • Stopped off to get milk for the house and the little man as requested.
  • Made the mistake of under estimating Kel's hormonality this morning. She went nuclear when she didn't like how I complained that she hadn't followed my precise request for the baby's breakfast. Typical hormonally compromised behavior of seeking out conflict and perceiving any annoyance as a complete attack.
  • Buttoned up the house to try to keep it cool.  It hit 92. outside, but inside we peaked at 80 at about 6:30 PM.
  • Saw a hipster kid with a purple stocking hat on the way to pick up Johann. It was 90. Hilarious.
  • Johann and I went to the grocery to get BLT ingredients.  He loved being in the cart.  He did try to pull his legs out, though, so I had to seat belt him.  He didn't mind.
  • He played around while I started on dinner.  He seemed to want a snack, so i put him in his chari and let him see me in the kitchen.  He gestured tht he wanted the pineapple i was cutting up.  I asked if he wanted it, got his eye and asked for a "yes".  He gave me a "yes!" so I cut the pineapple up as fast as I could and gave him some, and he really seemed to like it. He then started playing a game where he gave me "monster face" when our eyes would meet, and laugh.  I think he was really happy, and enjoying playing with me.
  • I put a piece of bacon in the food processor and obliterated it into bacon bits.  Johann liked these.  I mixed them into a smashed avocado, along with some Gorgonzola cheese and spread this on little squares of toast.  Johann ate  these with enthusiasm.  I was pleased.
  • Kel came home and I got to make myself a BLT. It was great though I realize between the bacon, avocado and cheese, it's a fat and salt bomb. No wonder it's so good.
  • I took a bath with mini man.  He had a good time splashing about in there.  he helps to wash his hair.  It's super cute.
  • We let him run around in his diaper for a while.  He was in a great mood.  I read him a story that he handed to me, but he lost interest.  He did hold out for the "where is baby's belly button" book, so we may have to put that into heavy rotation.

Monday, May 12, 2014

Today I

  • Couldn't get up with my 5 Am alarm.  I stayed in bed with Kel until 7:20.
  • Little man was asleep when I got up.  Kel was in the shower.  I got in after her.
  • I grabbed a short breakfast and got online. Kel kept Johann in the pack.  He didn't really want breakfast.
  • About 11 the lady from the north bay regional center came to do the in home evaluation and questionnaire for Johann.  He was his usual silly self, liking to be upside down, etc.  In the grand scheme of things, he's actually doing OK.
  • Kel took Johann to daycare for lunch, and went on to the city.
  • I got him from daycare and we went to the little park.  Swings.  Then Johann played on the tiny slide, and can almost climb up it.  Just needs a little help.  He went down the slide a few times, holding on to me.  He's definitely interested, as he holds me and pulls himself onto the decline.  He then climbed up all the stairs from the toddler area to the big park, and met Coco the dog.  He picked a clover, and offered it to me to smell.
  • Fed him quiche for dinner.  He ate most of it, then wanted down, so we played in the front yard and the side.  I noticed there are little bur-generating plants growing all throughout the front yard.  I don't recall them being there before.  There's not a lot of real grass left there.
  • Came back inside and i fed hm a beet-based chouch.  He liked the game of squirting some on the spoon, then delivering the spoon to his own mouth.  He's getting better at using a spoon.  But the end was messy.
  • Tonight, while Kel held him, he kind of gave her two sloppy kisses on the cheek.  They may be his first kisses ever to her, today on his 18 month birthday.  I took a bunch of pictures of him.
  • We had fun with me superman carrying him through the house and running.  He loves it.  It winds me.

Sunday, May 11, 2014

Today I

  • Got up when I woke to finish mother's day cards for Kelly.  Got little man up, gave him milk.  He quickly needed another diaper change.
  • Kel woke up feeling a bit rough, but once her meds kicked in, was better.  I made rosemary popovers and hit the shower.  Then kell hit the shower, so Johann and I met her when she came out with her presents, the Tibetian necklace and earrings. I think the were a success.
  • Kel spoke to her mom, and we tried unsuccessfully to fix her internet connectivity problems.  Just cant' help her over the phone.
  • Got on skype with my mom.  She was at Aunt Jody's with suzie and grandma, so I got so see all of them.
  • Booked plane tickets to Ft. Wayne (chicago) for June.
  • Romi and Jon stopped y while we fed Johann quiche for lunch.  He took down a lot of it.
  • Tried to get little man to nap, but little luck.  I drove Jon and Romi to the Airporter for their trip to France.
  • Took a break on the couch, but got Johann up when it was clear he wasn't sleeping.
  • I made butternut squash soup, roasted cauliflower and kale chips (for the first time) for dinner.  I tried to give Johann kale chips, but he just crushed them like dry leaves in his hands and then dusted the flakes off.  No nutrition there.
  • I got him to walk while holding just one hand by offering the second. He just walks towards it to get it and ends up taking 4 or 5 steps holding with just one hand.  It's good progress.
  • He was super interested in the hats on the shelf above Kelly's closet.  He's into hats.
  • Mellow evening with Kel.  I'm pretty exhasuted going into a Monday, but I'm sure Kel doesn't feel super, either.

Today I

  • Slept in, had some snuggles with Kel.  had to feed Johann at midnight last night.  He demanded yogurt.
  • Made oatmeal for myself and little man.  He liked it, a little, but was very anti-red raspberry, which was odd.  Kel made quiches and I had Johann escort me outside. He liked playing in the greenhouse.
  • I made Kel more cookies, at her request.  She fed little man some quiche, which he loved.

Saturday, May 10, 2014

Yesterday I

  • Got up a bit after Kel.  She informed me that things were not looking good for the pregnancy.  We discussed the plan of action for the day.  She stayed home and worked from home.  She had some morning calls, as did I.  When I was done I found her lying down in the guest room.  We called her doctor together, and the word was not good.  I called Dustin to tell him what was going on and that I was going to be out for today.
  • Kel's situation got a bit worse, so she started in on her meds.  She asked me to come with her to the grocery store.  Did that, dropped off pants to get cleaned, she got a burrito at Sonoma.  At CVS, they didn't have her prescription ready, but she realized she had enough already to get through.  The cookie started to kick in about 90 minutes after she ate it and she felt a lot better.
  • I worked a bit, got munchies from daycare. Told Sirlei and Xana what was going on. Xana was in her van, and I could tell it was upsetting for her.
  • I made the "french" peasant chicken dinner, along with biscuits.  Johann loved them.  Kel reached out to Xana and found out she was going through the same thing, so I delivered some cookies and some beers to their house.
  • Johann did some more laps in his push walker.  Andrew called, and Johann wanted to see him on the phone.  He waves at the phone, as if people can see him.  We switched to skype, and then Johann didn't wave.  Had a long chat.  Kel put little man down most of the way through.
  • I checked my mail and found that all was well for lineups.  Dustin got Julian to sub in for me, so all good.

Thursday, May 8, 2014

Today I

  • Up to row.  Practiced our 8+ for Saturday.  Should be fast.  Not very effective at the high rates in the start, but we had good base speed and very good closing speed.  Somewhat nervous about my races, but I hope we win.
  • I got home and Kel was at the table with Johann, who was drinking his milk.  No one was having the rhubarb cobbler I made last night.  I remembered there might be zucchini flowers this morning, and there were.  I made two, gave one to Johann.  Seeing him with it in his hand made me happy.  He was a bit of a mess eating it, had it in pieces, but he did seem to like it.  I sent Kel with rhubarb cobbler and another one for Sirlei.  I put Johann in the car.
  • Kel told me this morning things weren't good for her.  Back to spotting and feeling yucky.  I asked her to have a plan for pulling the plug on work, which she did.
  • Kel did her second blood test today.  We'll get another result tomorrow to see how things are ramping. We're prepared for bad news.  If it's not going to work, we'd all prefer it to happen sooner.
  • I chatted with my girls about our first candidate today.  They seemed positive, and the interviews went well. I got blown off for a call by my boss again.  Pretty awful.
  • Interviewed another good candidate. She was in Trinidad.  Amazing, the internet. The world is getting smaller.  I think it's amazing.
  • Ended up crashing for a while today.  I admit, it feels nice to not feel totally exhausted.  I'm just leery of messing up my sleeping patterns.
  • Mailed mother's day presents at the Terra Linda office. They enter the address directly when printing the shipping label.  I think it does the auto routing for the whole package for the whole route.  Pretty smart to get the human to read it.
  • Got Johann.  He wanted a pretzel stick.  Xana showed me that he's eating un blended food now, so I gave him un-ground food tonight. I think the more he chews, the better for his vocal and lingual development.  He didn't like the curry that much, but he was happy with the rice and beans.  He wasn't nuts about the rhubarb, but I'll give him time on that.
  • Johann did a lot of pushing of his walker again tonight.  He really goes with it.  I think it's a pretty good sign, he's getting faster with is foot turnover, which will help him be more stable.  Still not much progress on free standing, though.
  • Chatted with Kel on the couch for a bit after little man went down.  Talked about exploratorium plans for Sunday, and that it may not make sense for them to come to the races on Saturday, though it would be fun to have a family day.  I don't understand my dad's choices in life.  I don't understand his priorities. I want to do things with Johann every day.  Maybe he was like that early on, but then it went away when there were many kids? I don't know.

Today I

  • Weight circuit with the guys.  Breard, Kennel, Wagner, JJ, Brian Kelley, and Patrick were all there. I did well.  Hard, but not impossible.
  • Home to find Kel changing munchkin on his changing table.  Much snuggling.  I couldn't help take him to the car because I had undressed for my shower.
  • Chatted with our designer about the display for the PVI stuff.  Gave feedback on proposed calculators.  Gave my girls instructions on interviewing.
  • Enjoyed a nap with Mystery.  The circuit got me.  Enjoyed Kel's (my) curry for lunch.
  • The cleaning girls came today, and I did ok.  They were pretty quiet.  I re-wrote some of the SQL for the PCl index, and it went well.  Need to finish it.
  • Chatted with Simon.  His presentation went well, and he was grateful for my help.  He passed out my deck to the bankers.
  • Forgot to finish mother's day cards, so sat down to get cards ready to mail.  Got Johann from daycare, went to Walgreens.  Put him in a cart, and he loved it.  Got mailer envelopes, and raided the 75% off Easter candy.  Gave mini man a few bites once back in the car.  He's developing opinions about being in the seat, things he wants to see, carts, etc.
  • Once home, he tried to crawl out the front door while I had it open unloading the car.  We played inthe front yard, where he played in the sandy and dry dirt in the begonia pot.  He picked up a few fist fulls of dirt.  Not a big deal.  But then he held one aloft over his head, and then opened his hand.  The dirt went very much in his mouth, and on his face.  But he didn't cry.  I immediately started trying to get it out of his mouth, which he didn't mind too much.  Again, largely unfazed by it.  He then picked at the old moss by the bushes, and tried to eat a few muddy moss chips. He peeked under the bushes at Midori, who was there.  She was always in orbit the whole time we were out there.  Johann wanted to go in the greenhouse, and tried to lick a bunch of things he shouldn't like the bottles in there.  We did a general tour of the yard, watering things. Eventually we went inside, and he did a few laps with his walker.
  • Kel brough mexican, and we blended some shrimp and veggies to mix with his refied beans, which he enjoyed and ate heartily. I found my chorizo burrito too hot.  We blended some Sierra Nevada black IPA with Kel's ODoul's and that was pretty good for her, her favorite yet.  SO we saved the rest to use as an additive.  I gave up on mine and had a doppleboch.
  • Johann did a ton of laps up and down the long hallway with his push cart.  Kel got video.  He was laughing and laughing.  He loved to "chase" someone with it.  That was too funny for him. He's making some walking progress, and is much faster with his walker than he is crawling.  I think he'll start to transition soon, I hope.
  • I harvested rhubarb, and there's a rhubarb crisp in the oven right now.  I'm going to turn it off and go to bed.
  • Kel Bathed with Johann, who had a great time.
  • Kel read him Goodnight Moon while I held him, and pointed at the pictures.  He pointed at a few things.  He did a decent job of answering what turkeys say.  I think I heard a "W" sound while in walgreens.

Today I

  • Rowed 2 seat in an 8+ for the weekend.  I coached Bjorn in 3 a bit, and he made good changes.  I think maybe I should stroke, though. Seems Mike wasn't as good, and I think I'm better than our other options.
  • Short Birthday reception for JJ after practice.  I chatted with Dustin about the fallout from the 4 accident.
  • Home, plugged in car to top it up for Kel.  Little man seems to have scratched his face in the night.  Pretty bad one on his right cheek.  I put antibiotic on it.
  • Work in box was very full.  Took me a long time to face the email from my boss.  It wasn't as bad as I thought it could be. Now it looks like I'm traveling for May 22.
  • Kel was pretty fried, so I got Johann from daycare, picked up the mother's day prints I had made, and then went to the grocery to get stuff to make dinner.  He waved at a lady in the yogurt aisle, and she dropped her phone trying to wave back. he made some days.  He really likes the carts. Upon leaving CVS, he was bummed not to get to go in one.  Did turkey burgers on the grill with the usual, plus candied pecans and Gorgonzola on arugula. Yum.  Not low cal.  Kel watched mini man while I cooked.
  • After dinner, Kel crashed onthe couch, so I took mini man outside.  We did a few walking lengths of the hallway with his push cart.  He just runs with it.  Tonight I tried "three, two one, Go!" and he seemed to get it.  He went on "go!" and laughed his head off as I gave him a "wooooo!" as he trotted down the hall at top speed, pausing only to laugh too hard to keep going.  I read him the little engine that could.  I need to look for an old copy of it on eBay, etc.  Out of print, something like that.
  • I got him down about 8:30.  He may have understood when i told him I'd be right back, because I left him in his crib, but he didn't cry.  I came back with the antibiotic ointment for his face.
  • Kel was out so I sorted mother's day pictures for the grandmas.
  • Lifting tomorrow.

Sunday, May 4, 2014

Today I

  • Awoke to Kel in the shower.  Got up with her and little man.
  • Kel made a lovely breakfast of truffle salted scrambled eggs with mushrooms and green peppers.  Johann didn't want his oatmeal much, but ate some of the eggs.
  • We went to the farmers' market with Romi and Jon. I had bug in the pack.  Head a lovely cellist on the way out.
  • Kel departed for her spa day, and I had bug with me.  He and I did mother's day shopping.  First to the Walgreens for cards, and then a side trip to Fairfax for things for Kel.  I got Johann some of the 75% off easter candy.  I fed him the "crunch" chocolate little bird thing in the car, and he liked it.  Kind of let the chocolate melt in his mouth.  Then he fell asleep on the way to Fairfax, so I sat with him in the car for about an hour while he napped and I kind of drifted.
  • Back home, tried to feed him some snack.  He really hasn't shown any liking of pineapple, which is odd. He did a lot for crawling in the front yard, in and out of the gate, and shows interest in the soccer ball.  He liked to follow midori, who just runs away from him, but always remains within observational distance.
  • Kel came home and instructed me through making her curry.  Johann unexpectedly threw up while I was grinding up his curry, so instead of curry he was just fed yogurt.  Hope he's OK.  Kel bathed him.  I just neede a break and had a beer.  I wish I'd been there to participate, but it sounds like they had fun in the tub.
  • Jon and Romi came over for Game of Thrones.  I opened the Sam Adams New World triple, and it was really yummy.

Saturday, May 3, 2014

Today I

  • Up to row.  No Dustin, so out in 4-s.  Me in stroke, Noah steering, John Davis in 2.  All was fine, until doing a piece in with Alan's 4, at a high pressure 23ish, we hit a quad coming out.  Both of us were in the middle ish, though I think we were more in the wrong.  Spencer in the bow took John's oar to the back hard.  John's rigger got destroyed.  The back stay on the bow port rigger int he quad got bent, and both bow and two had their oars shattered in the quad.  Total fiasco.  I felt really bad.  I hate being a party to anything like that.  Not really my fault in stroke, but it's kind of everyone's responsibility.
  • Kel awoke feeling shit from no sleep, so was unsure she'd swim.  But she sowed at the boathouse with tiny man, and said she wanted to meet me for breakfast at the plaza, so I took tiny man over, fed him chouch in his stroller, then bits of my toast and coffee cake.  I tried to feed him some eggs, but not interested.  Kel arrived, and we hung out through her breakfast, talked with Allison about her dating life.  Then Jim called, so i talked with him while Kel went to Molly Stones.
  • Tiny man fell asleep on my way home, and I managed to get him into his bed without waking him. When I got home William was here fixing the roof.   Kel got home and went down for a nap.  I cuddled up in the guest room with the iPad and Midori and soon found myself asleep, too.  We all slept for a few hours.
  • Jon dropped by to test a cookie. Early word is it works.
  • I had Johann outside a lot, working on walking on his walker.  He's getting better all the time.
  • Had William in for some beers after his work.  Heard a lot about growing Agave in Mexico, life there.  He's a good guy.  I want to help him.

Yesterday I

  • Kel was awake before I was, and told me she was possibly symptomatic of losing the pregnancy.  I pulled her back into bed with me, and just went over that this is all a  good sign, no matter what.  I wanted to think about action-orientation, so we though tthrough all the things that might need adjusting if things were going south.  Included a plan for her to come home from work, maybe needing to rebook her time with the girls on Sunday.  I made a plan to make her edible medicine up.
  • I spent most of the morning researching dosing to get it right.  Went with 10 g coco butter for a 12 cookie recipe.
  • Had a pretty useless work day.
  • Good news was Kel made it through the whole day. I expected her to come home at any minute.
  • Skyped with Steve later at night.  Both of us ended up staying up later than we'd have hoped, but was good to talk to Steve.  Chatted a lot about my shitty work situation.  Steve pointed out that I'm probably channeling a lot of bad learned shit from the parents.  I fear he's right.  I wish I could be different.
  • He also pointed out that the only way to get the dosing right was experimentation.

Thursday, May 1, 2014

Today I

  • No coach for practice today, driving the trailers up to Sacramento for CJs.  I steered a 4- with Raoul, Bob, Bjorn.  As ide from hitting a piling with my feathered oar on a 30 on, 10 off pass, it was good.  Bjorn did well after the first 5 strokes of each piece when he'd relax and let the boat flow.  We did some starts, etc.
  • Came home to see little man with Kel. She had a presentation on the peninsula today, so took off early.
  • William came by to finish the roof.  He came in for water, I gave him some and a tour of the brewery, and poured him a taste.  He's a sweet man.
  • Got little man from daycare, and he was in a good mood.  He was playing with stackable blocks.  Sirelei says he gets a kick out of trying to tickle the other kids.  he just wants to make everyone laugh.
  • On the way to the car he signed for "more" turns out he wanted Oliver out of his day bag.  At least he understands the symbol is that he wants something.  It's really great progress. He still does the turkey noise, and tonight we may have taught him "cow".  He laughs at "ooooo".
  • I drove to Beer Revolution in Oak to meet Christopher.  Lovely night.  We chatted with some girls, which was totally uncharacteristic.  I think we both registered as "harmless" and possibly also "old". He and I discussed many things.  He and I are more alike than I knew.  I'd love to find my next thing through him.  He may do an introduction.
  • Drove the leaf.  I had pre-calculated that I could do the trip.  Drove home conservatively, and had plenty of range to spare.  Fun to see how far I can go in the car.
  • There were snickerdoodles on the table for me when I got home.  What a great girl I have.  Takes me back to our early days together.  So sweet.

Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Today I

  • Ended up with a solo training session my first day back with JJ.  Seems the rest of the team hadn't gotten the memo.  I felt a little awkward, because I wasn't prepared to pay for a solo session, and had figured things were already settled.  But I went with it, and it was hard, but good.  If anything, it let JJ calibrate the set for next week.  I felt bad that I didn't have cash to pay him, and went to the ATM, thinking I'd pay later, but then decided that he deserved his full fee, and went back and gave it to him.  It'll probably mean a lot more to him than it did to me, so it was the right thing.
  • Had some confusion with cars and timings this morning. The leaf wasn't charged enough. I tookJohann to daycare, and he got fussy when I went to leave.  In hindsight, Sirlei texted me a picture soon after of him being happy in his chair for breakfast. I didn't get it until tonight.  It's hard for me to leave him in the morning.  I know he wants to be with me.
  • Work was work.  I love my team.  The senior management is full of assholes. I'm pretty done with tolerating the second class citizen shit.
  • Johann seems to remember what turkeys say, and is increasingly responsive to questions about the locations of flowers and cats.  He's also getting better with his signs.  He remains curious about the cat door outside.  He loves to smell the roses.  Makes me think of Grandpa Herber. He's always been fond of plants.  Not sure if that's because he's around them, but I hope it sticks with him.  Maybe he's a future botanist. Or ecologist.
  • I trimmed the daylights out of the tree that overgrows by my hops, and also trimmed back the smaller hop vine shoots from the early ones.  They're growing fast.

Tuesday, April 29, 2014

Today I

  • Stroked the 4-, with Stralka in bow, Breard in 3 and Sarson in 2.  I coached David on placement during some of the drills because i could see his blade when I turned around to watch.  He definitely got it.  On the pieces, we kept up with the 8 no trouble, and crucified the other 4- on the final piece in. The guys permitted me a long, patient rhythm with a strong acceleration.  It was effective.  Then did 30 min on the treadmill for 3.8 miles.  7.5 until 12 min to go, then 7.6, then up .1 every min for final 6 min.
  • Work wise I did some analysis on the arrival rate of new EF tickets, and some suggestions for solving the problem.  Should be a possible KPI/ dashboard for CS.  I also sent off SQL tests to candidates, so I hope that all goes well.
  • Took bug to the park after daycare.  He loved the swing, crawled around in the grass, and we met a lady named Kelly with 2 aussie shepherds, one was blind and found the ball by sound and smell. Johann signed for "more" on the swing, but I think it was because it was the second option between "up" and "more".  So he's got the gesture, and now needs to learn its meaning.
  • Shared a Omegang Abbey with Jon next door, and then ended up hanging with him and ROmi with Kel and munchie.  Kel told Romi our news.
  • Jon told us Midori woke them in the middle of the night last night crawling on the trellis trying to get some baby birds.  Bad cat.

Monday, April 28, 2014

Today I

  • Up a bit earlier than usual to row the 4-.  I steered, with John Y in stroke, Joel, and Bjorn in 2. We split the 4 boats into 2 pairs, and ours was slowest.  Bjorn made some good changes 2/3 through, letting the boat come to him on the recovery, and it made a big difference.
  • Home I turned on the infusion project again to re-heat and re-simmer.  I then strained it into a tupperware, returned the vegetable matter to the pan, added water for another light boil, then re-strained.  Let it cool on the counter, and then finished in the fridge.  The oil layer popped off as a firm solid, and the water was discarded.  I think it will be a success.
  • Usual monday meeting, chatted with the recruiter.  Spent the day doing the SQL test, and found I'm actually decent at it.  Took me a while, but I got it right.
  • Got Johann from Daycare.  Sireli says he learned to tickle others: one little wiggly index finger.
  • Took Johann to the park.  Spun him slowly on the "sailboat".  He laughed and had a great time while Kel pushed him in the swing.  Kel got a call from her doctor then, so they had that chat.  Johann climbed on the toddler town.  There were wild turkeys, so we all walked towards them, and they retreated, but I think Johann saw them.  I made a turkey sound, Johann thought it was silly, but then, to our surprise, he tried to imitate the sound!  So Johann's first animal sound is: turkey.  He also got a kick out of me being a big crawler in the grass with him and crawling over him.
  • He didn't want to eat, and didn't want to go down to sleep tonight.  It's 9:15 and he's in there calling out "mum!'  "amamamam!"  Meanwhile Kel and I are both ready to drop.
  • I'm thinking of entering my pale ale and my barleywine in the marin county fair.  We'll see how that goes.

Sunday, April 27, 2014

Today I

  • Got Johann out of bed this morning.  Tried to get him to say "up" but still no dice.  I did think he signed "eat" though when I had him on the changing table, so I got him puffies right away and told Kel.
  • Fed him bananas and oatmeal.  He had some, but then after some playing outside, he decided he was hungry for real, and so polished off the oatmeal plus some chouch of various orange veggies.
  • About the time he wanted a snack, I took him outside on the back porch in his chair, under an umbrella with his crackers and strawberries on his tray with a drink, so he could see me re-pot the growing long term potted garden plants.
  • Kel came home, and we tried to get her and little man down for a nap, but no dice, really.
  • I transferred my dry hopped saison to secondary.  The transfer volume is a little low. I don't know if it's the bucket, which is poorly labeled, or if I left behind a larger volume than usual because the yeast hadn't fully settled.  Dunno.  Will need to take a gravity reading.  It smelled good.  I went with the 23 g citra, swithced to 14 g Sorachi Ace,
  • Kel dropped and broke one of the clear lids to the pots.  It shattered mostly in the sink, but on the counters and floor as well. It woke Johann, so I offered to clean up if she just took care of him.  I used a dust pan and brush on the floor and in the sink, and eventually the vacuum to get it out of the disposal.  I think it worked well.  Was mostly worried about tiny bits where Johann crawls.
  • Kel made another amazing curry.
  • At dinner, Johann finally signed "more". He wanted more.  Kel said more to him, I told her to sign it as she left.  When she came back, I told her to sign it again, and this time, Johann bumped his two little fists together.  We were both cheering.  he did it over and over.  I hope he understands the idea and uses it again.  it feels like a breakthrough. Time for more signs.
  • I began my first attempt at infusing butter for baking tonight.  We may or may not be able to have a result for a while, but I figure worth while to practice.

Yesterday I

  • Saturday practice 2 x 2k + 2 x 1500m, ratest 26-34.  I rowed 2, after showing up late.  It was a gift to be boated.
  • Kel met me at the BH with Johann.  She went over to Bon Air and order breakfast for us.  Mine was the mushroom omelet w/ sour dough.  Sent back my grape jelly for strawberry.  She had pancakes and bacon and eggs over easy.  She shared with Johann.  I had showered at the BH because I was heading up to BG with Mike for the shooting thing.
  • Rode up with Mike and Paul.  Fun times going up, chatted about everything from electric energy future, going carless, etc.
  • I did mediocre at trap.  Shot 13/25 both times, so 50%.  I think part of it is being away from my video games, but part of it was not having my concentration set.  I did best when I'd lead the bird, figure where it was going to be, and get my sites lined up there.  Dunno if that's best.
  • Was home by 6.  Kel had take Johann to the EV rally that day, and he sat in John Y's Tesla and got lots of pictures.  it was fun and cool to evangelize.  We'd totally do it again.
  • We went to BJs for dinner.  I was stuffed, so basically had beer for dinner there, "sofie" by Goose Island.  Super dry, tart, like a super Wit made with Saison yeast blend.  Johann sat between us.  Once home, i had a carrot, and a banana.  Johann thought my eating the carrot was interesting.  I sat on the kitchen floor with him, and he'd see me bit off a bit, and want to try to do the same himself.  So I let him try.  Baby wants vegetables, going to say yes.
  • Kel and I talked in bed a lot, about what we recalled form topics discussed on her chemically enhanced birthday/ wedding night.  Apparently, I told her she's not clumsy, just lacks a lower gear for fine movement.  She told me I don't have to be naughty to have fun, but I told her for me that if I'm having fun, I'm being naughty.  Then we had a pretty hot night.

Friday, April 25, 2014

Today I

  • Slept late.  Kel was up and showered before I got up.  Johann called to her/ us from his room "mum!"  "mum!" and Kel went in to get him.  He was in a good mood.  I carried him to the car for daycare.
  • Interviewed a good candidate for my BI role via skype.  He's got a more analytical bent than I'd have sought, but it could be good.
  • Got Johann from daycare.  Sirlei was teaching him animals with the small stuffed animals from the farm, with a swan playing the part of a duck. Told Sirlei about Kel's test result being in "normal" parameters of having doubled in 2 days.  It's hard to know what to hope for, here, but that's good news, on some levels.
  • Had Kel's swim friend Mary Alice over for dinner.  She's expecting her first, so we answered as many questions as we could, including about circumcision.  She's cool, and we'd like to see more of her.
  • I noticed Johann is doing a lot better putting the pegs in the holes in his peg launcher. I also think he's trying to say "milk".  Hard to distinguish from "mom!", but I think he's trying.  He was pretty consistent in pointing to the cats.  I let him walk with me into the back yard where he splashed with his hands in the puddle atop the temporary compost bucket's lid. He had a good laugh playing in the water, and is getting more confident and competent walking.  He stepped up the steps into the house form the back yard.
  • Drank a whole bottle of Hennepin Saison myself.  Someone has to do it.

Wednesday, April 23, 2014

Yesterday I

  • Rowed in a 4- with Alan, Zorn, Rhinehart, I stroked.  It was mediocre.  Had minor issues with Alex being pissy when his crew rowed out from behind his launch to cross in front of the bridges.  it would have been fine had he not implied it was our fault by asking if we saw his launch.  Tool.
  • Stephen and Rebecca came by on their way to the airport.  Steve gave me a big sincerely expressive hug, so I know he was sorry about the f-up on Sunday for the petrified forest.  Seems I'm a good farmer, as Rebecca and he agree I create interesting stuff.
  • Dropped them at airporter in larkspur, and was again reminded that the electric doesn't do well when loaded.  Go through bars fast when weight is up.
  • We put Johann into my 18 month old photo outfit, and took pictures of him, trying to get close to the picture of me, and then did a skype with mom and Grandma. It went well, though it dropped when i tried to show mom the Bretted saison, and we had a hard time re-establishing the connection.  Eveyone in Ft. Wayne wants to know if we're going back for the June get together.

Monday, April 21, 2014

Today I

  • Up to row the 4-.  Raoul, David S, Brian K and me steering. We were respectable.
  • Did my first post row work out of the head season.  30 min treadmill 3.77 miles. Challenging, but mostly mentally so.
  • Home for some time with mini man, then straight into brewing the re-do of the Saison I liked so well.  The yeast starter was quiet for 24 hours, then nuts when we got home last night.  Smelled a bit of that industrial/ phenolic aroma, but I *think* I smelled that last time and all was well.  I sure hope so.
  • William the handy man was by to look at the roof, adn eh ended up cleanign gutters and trimming back trees.
  • Kel took her test this morning, and it was positive, as I had expected.  Taking that one day at a time.
  • Took Johann into SF for his appointment with the developmental specialist.  We didn't learn much, other than he's most likely not autistic in any way, but is delayed in a few ways, and that more tests are on order.  I held him for his blood draw for the genetic tests they want to do.  Right now, I think he's going to come back biologically nromal, which I think I'd prefer.  Id' rather he be normal and unexplained, because then it seems like he'll catch up. I don't want bad news.  It's so hard to see him cry with needles.
  • I fear we lost Oliver when I got out of the car in the lot to get Burritos. Kel ordered 2 new ones.  Not the same, but hopefully no one will notice.  I feel bad.  I hope he shows up.
  • I cleaned up my brewing, and took Johann out front for some play time in the grass.  He loved it, chased the cats, picked cover.  He still loves his flowers.
  • Tonight, he pointed to objects on the shelf in the living room, and I tried to figure out what he wanted, and pulled them down for him.  He was fascinated by the paint brushes.  He was super happy.  He laughed when he tried to put the cats' ball in my mouth, and I made a sour face and shook my head "no" and pulled away.  He kept trying.  And laughing.  I think he understands teasing.  It was really cute.  He then wanted to pass the ball by mouth to each other.  Kind of hilarious. He laughed.

Yesterday I

  • Kelly got up before me to take care of little man. I slept a little late, but got up to take over as Kel left for her swim.
  • After some chats with Stephen, we opted to head for the Petrified Forest so Johann could nap in the car on the way up.  As we approached, I called Steve to discover they hadn't even left yet,so we drove all the way over to Calistoga to let Johann sleep longer and to have lunch.  After lunch I called again, and they were stopped in San Rafael, so we just went to the petrified forest anyway.
  • The fossilized wood was really interesting. The wood has essentially been slowly replaced by mineral deposits, so the structure of the wood is preserved at a very fine level of detail such that rings are apparent.  The trees are huge.  Just really interesting.  Got Johann a fossil book and  trilobite fossil, because they're just great.
  • Stopped at Russian River brewing on the way back.  I got the Belgian sampler, and was impressed with the sours.  I'm acquiring the taste.  Johann had a tough time, I think it was because he was tired, but maybe hungry.  I had to hold him for much of the outing, so Kel and I didn't get much time together.
  • Once home, Kel took care of him and gave him a bath and put him down.

Friday, April 18, 2014

Today I

  • Awoke in Calistoga.  Tried to feed tiny man a good breakfast, but he wanted just a little milk, some yogurt with honey and that was it.  He did wave to the lady who runs the place, and visited her in the office.
  • Uneventful drive home, discussed with Kel how I should hande future situations in which Im asked somethign I can't logically answer, such as "Is everything in the bag".  What's most likely is that I'm some kind of mild Aspberger's case, and just can't handle humans.
  • Got home, set the car to charging and unloaded.  Drove down to SFO in the electric to get Steve & Rebecca, waited for them in the cell phone lot.  There's a 110 outlet in the lot one could use for trickle charge.  Upon leaving the airport, it became clear that the extra weight meant I was burning bars fast.  Stopped to use the evGO charger for a fast charge. Had a good chat with the guys servicing it. Impressive how fast it can pump energy into the car.
  • Got burritos on the way home. Home.  Hung out. ABout the time we needed to go out for dinner, it was clear we needed to feed tiny man.  He had mostly milk and goldfish crackers.  We're a bot worried that he's a bit unwell.  Lower GI.  Maybe picked it up at Harbin.
  • Ordered sushi, it was amazing.  Had Stone Drink by 4 20 14 and it was great.  Steve liked it a lot.  He needs double IPAs.
  • So hard to get tiny man to settle in, took all of us going into his room.  Eventually i just lt him out of his crib. He crawled around his room a bit, played with his new barn from Grandma, and then lay down onthe floor.  I rubbed his back while he settled in.  Once it was clear he was really trying to settle in (after he spooned for a second or two, so sweet), I put him in his crib, and he was fine.  Now of to bed for me to row tomorrow.

Today I

Got up with little man at our Calistoga hotel and had continental breakfast on their porch like dining area. Tried to get Johann to eat cut up hard boiled egg. No dice. Saw a headline about the Korean ferry accident.

I hustled us out of the room so we could do a hike Kel found. It was from one state park to another. Passed an old (by CA standards) cemetery. Too many young women and children. There was a monument to the "first" church in the area. It felt like a very Euro centric thing to memorialize. "Nothing of interest happened here until 1850, when some white Christians built a building for their religion."

I had mini man in the pack with all the supplies for the hike. It was through woods and over a mild hill. He did well. Kel had the camera. He actually fell asleep in the pack. That was pretty special. He'd pet and stroke my shoulders, like we might do to a horse we were riding.

The end of the trail was an old grist mill. Closed to public but amazing to see. I live the technology of prior eras. Good to know for the apocalypse.

Stopped there for snacks. Little man liked the return trip less. He cried and fussed, so Kel gave me the green light to hustle back to the car. Once there Johann was happy.  On the way back, I almost jumped out of my pants when the massively loud hissing snare of a rattle snake erupted right next to the trail.  My first ever encounter with a rattle snake in the wild.  Scared me silly.

We ate lunch in town, and then back to the room for naps for him and Kel

Post nap was pool time. Kel instructed me on my swim kicks. I got better.

Walked to town for dinner. Photo is from the walk in. Bug ate well, but once done, wanted out of the seat. I spent most of the meal outside with him. He liked the flowers. He waved at people. Had pork shoulder that was amazing.

Walked around town a bit after dinner. Maybe it was the dessert we gave him, but bug was thrilled with the shops, and thought a lot of things were funny.

When we got to our neighborhood, he laughed as we walked in the dark.

Let him play in the room. Full of beans. He wanted to go out, so Kel took him for a walk. I joined and she reminded me some day I'll pine for the time when he just wanted me to carry him. I showed him the roses. Put him to bed in the pack n play and he made races. Pointed to the pack and made his spotty sound for "I want that". 9:30 at night and he wants to go in the pack. He's asleep now and so is Kel.

Today I

Slept in with Kel. She got up with Johann and we prepped for our trip to Calistoga.

I planted my garden. Figured outside is now the best place for my plants. Midori helped. The plan is to have the squash grow over the side with the cherry tomato plants in front for Johann to be able to pick them.

I did some work correspondence this morning. Told Dina she's right to be stern.

Stopped in Napa for lunch at brew pub. Johann was a sweetie. Didn't eat much.

I checked work email when leaving and made it known I could take a call but would be out of signal range soon.

Harbin was fine, but Johann puked while in the pool. I got him out and got most of the payload on myself. I took him to the showers to rinse us both. It was hard to convince him to go in for a second time, but Kel managed it and he really had fun.

He's happy on his back, and trusts his own buoyancy a bit.

While prepping to leave Kel stepped on a bee and was stung. After I mocked the sign saying "bee's watch your feet". We got ready to leave fast because I didn't k ow what shed need.

At the end of the windy downhill out of Harbin, johann puked in the back seat. Kel was also pretty queasy. So I pulled over and changed the boy. Fortunately, most was on him, so the car seat won't smell too bad.

We tried to feed him while at dinner, but he wast much for it. Amazing white pizza with mushrooms and truffle oil. Kel had beef I had  chicken on polenta. I carried Johann for most of the evening. He didn't want to sit and eat. He liked the flowers and liked crawling on one of the picnic table tops and sticking his arm through the umbrella hole.

Now at our room. Took a bath with him and put him down. He's lights out.

Today I

  • Got up with Kel, and got little man up and changed.  Kel put on water for my oatmeal, and I made it for myself.  Fed little man a few bites of his breakfast.
  • had standing skype with my team, then 2 skype interviews with good candidates.
  • Finally had the chat with head of sales, and got answers to permit me to try to model.
  • Gave tiny man his bath in the tub.  He peed.  He didn't care.
  • Watched little guy walk super fast with his plastic walker cart on the cobblestones in the back yard.  On his return trip, he got off balance and fell and surprised himself and bonked his head a bit on the bricks.  We consoled him, and once he settled down, had him take a few more steps on the walker.
  • Think we may have taught little man to nod "yes!" for things he wants. Tried to teach him with Oliver, and other things he indicated he wanted. He was inconsistent, but started to understand that "yes" nods meant he got what we were offering/ pointing to, etc.

Today I

  • Up with Kel 7 ish.  She got Johann up, and brought him to me.  Put in new contacts.  Made Johann a scrambled egg in the small cast iron skillet.  He didn't seem super hungry for breakfast.  Tried to show him his new tupperware container with the hole for blocks, but still not interested in playing the game.
  • I took him to meet Kel after her practice. Got there when practice was well over, but Kel was still in the pool.  Johann and I saw Jim and Deb, and Kel was happy and surprised to see us. I held Johann down to the surface of the pool so he could touch the water, which he liked.  His little blue sweatpants got wet from crawling on the pool deck.
  • Kel made a nice breakfast of eggs with mushrooms and truffle salt and cheddar cheese and fig jam on wheat english muffins and bacon in the microwave. We both tried to share with little man.  He liked the eggs.
  • Tried to have little man learn some more walking.  Took his pusher outside for him to play with inthe side yard.
  • Puthim down for a nap, which he fought a bit, but then fell asleep
  • helped Kel think about how to structure the terms of her contract with her potential longer term gig.  The flat salary with built in flex days and then going to consulting rate for overage will work.
  • Put tiny man in the pack to go to the park.  I cut up strawberries. We've decided to begin the practice of making outside time mean he has his sun hat on.  I popped strawberries into his mouth while he was on the swing with his sun hat on. I took him on the slide, and stayed with him while he crawled in the grass.  On the walk over, he had pulled on my hat from behind.  He was his usual happy self to get in the pack for the way home.
  • Had mushroom basil chicken pesto pasta again.  I fed Johann his, and he took down almost all of it.  Served my hefeweissen fromt hsi summer, and it was dry and very highly carbonated.  Also opened a west coast IPA from 2011, which was superb.  I should re-make that recipe.
  • I tried to push little man on his car, but he didn't like it much.  He though it was funny when I got on it to show him how it worked.
  • Apparently GOT is on tomorrow night, not tonight.
  • We'll maybe see Amy and Billy on Tuesday night, not tonight.

Saturday, April 12, 2014

Today I

  • Up to row in 6 seat in some even 8+'s.  Bad side wakes in the bay so into the creek for 20 on 10 off work, trying for max power.  Adrian coached.
  • Kel and bug were on the dock.  I took mini man to breakfast, fed him his pouch by spoon and his blueberries.  Listened to one of the masters women who had good counsel about his delays, as her daughter was born with CP.
  • Was about to leave and try t meet kel at her pool, she called me so we met at half Day Cafe and had breakfast there with mini man.  I had the eggs with chorizo, and fed some to Johann.  Peach smoothie, too.
  • On the way home, bug fell asleep in the car, so i drove around the neighborhood a bit to let him sleep some more.
  • Kel arrived home with groceries, and we decided little man didn't want to nap.
  • I made lemon rosemary chicken marinade, then had lunch with Kel (salad with feta and chicken and cherries) and then went o Marin humane society to try to get a feral cat trap. They were out.
  • I called Drew on my way home and had a long chat with him.
  • Tried to give little man a snack of pouch and other things.
  • Kel made lovely basil mushroom pesto chicken pasta for dinner.  I had the Cristofel Bier from the Belgian beer lift. It was lovely. Lighter body, raisin, fruity.  I need to rethink my approach to Belgian styles and go lower mash temp and lighter malts, trust the yeast.
  • Little man did some good walking on his push cart.
  • Watched Dispicable Me with Kel on the couch.

Thursday, April 10, 2014

Today I

  • Had a tough night with having to write a late night work email
  • Up to row the 4- with Raoul, Alan and Mike S.  Vs an 8+, did well.  Very foggy, glad I didn't have to steer.
  • Picked up red roses for Kelly on the way home.  She kept them with her all day.
  • Chatted briefly with Dina.  She's bummed out by dumb people.
  • Picked up my pants from the tailor, and Julie was already here.
  • Suited up with Kel, and got Johann from daycare.
  • Kel surprised me and changed her name.  Olga the clerk was kind and didn't charge for the new license.
  • Our ceremony was short and cute, and the setting was pretty architecturally awesome. So great to have Johann with us.
  • Lunch with Julie at Guyamas.  Johann had a hard time waiting in the car while we did a pit stop at home, poor bug.  I got him a cheese stick, but he didn't seem to want it.
  • Kel and I had dinner at Beer works.  Tried to think through my dream regatta.
  • Talked to Steve on the way home.
  • Now finally having E together

Wednesday, April 9, 2014

Today I

  • Slept late with Kel and had a lovely morning with her.
  • Johann woke up after my shower.  He was playful and shy in his green striped Dr. Seuss jammies.
  • Had yet another work day that makes me want to quit.
  • Tried to get my suit pants taken in in time for tomorrow's ceremonies. Cleaning girls came by today.
  • Picked up Johann from daycare, he was outside in the back yard with Sofia.  He waved when he saw me, and smiled.
  • Took him to toddler town for some mini tube slide, some swings.  He lit up with Joy when he saw Kelly arrive. She called to him and he waved to her from behind the jeep cut out.  He was happy to see her.
  • We almost forgot dinner with Jon and Romi.  They had us over.  Jon made slow cooked beef ribs on the grill.  I brought over the 2013 Hopocalypse.
  • Watched first episode of season 4 Game of Thrones with Kelly.

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

Today I

  • Up for my final practice with my SDCC 8.  2 x 1k.  First with start, second as second half.  First was a bit rough, as we'd not practiced a settle in the warm up and didn't settle well. There was a light mist falling.
  • After practice, de-rigged.
  • Had a very disappointing chat with the new HR woman. Once more, my logic fails to persuade anyone to take any action.  Her advice is that I have to make people think my idea is good for them.  I pointed out It's pretty hard to use soft power and influence from over here. It's left me feeling really unsupported.  I'd like to try to learn from this.  I'm realizing I'm failing at persuading up the organization and across.  I don't know how to be better, but I realize it'll hold me back in my career. I need to figure it out.  I think I need to ask for help, and I need to accept I don't have all the answers.
  • Went to the marin county clerk today.  Never thought I'd do that again.
  • Had conf call with various PFC folks about protocol and costs.  Looks like we target a May start.
  • Johann's screener qualified him for a referral to a developmental specialist.  There's also some resource available here, they say.  I don't know what to think.  He seems to be doing most of the normal things, but he's just on track if he were half his literal age. We'll wait to see what is said.
  • Took him to the park with Kelly.  Chime bars, down the slide with Kel holding his hands, big slide with daddy, some climbing on the toddlertown, some swings, and cheese stick.
  • For dinner, the boy wanted mostly milk.  I tried to give him his paella, but he was uninterested.  He wanted biscuit and chicken chunks. And more milk.
  • He did some more pushing of his walker cart, and played in the spare room, with his usual requests to see the framed pictures on the ground. He played with the box for his blinds.  He snuggled with Midori and Kelly briefly.  He also thought it funny to bite my nose. That hurt.
  • Watched a documentary on hospice in a prison.  It was so touching, how the other inmates took care of the subject.  There was a lot of redemption and compassion.  Made me want to find a way to serve our prison population here.
  • Kel and I are packing for San Diego.  We fly tomorrow.

Tuesday, April 1, 2014

Today I

  • Dragged myself out of bed after a night with Johann to go to the boathouse and fill in in the club 8.
  • We got hail dumped on us right as we hit the end of the playpen, before we were warm.  And, of course, I didn't have my hat.  The sound of thousands of tiny ice cubes hitting the metal riggers and water was very loud.  Adrian didn't know to stop us or to have us row through it, but we went through, because we were cold and needed to move. At one point I started to wonder at what point the hail would become dangerous.  Felt like it would cut my ears.
  • Kel met me with Johann at the boathouse so she could meet a team mat to carpool for her pitch today.  She got me an apple fritter at the gas station, and then we drove to the ferry terminal, where I dropped her, and then took Johann home.  She and her blonde friend pulled alongside me as I was about to get on 101 north, waving to get my attention.  Sweet moment.
  • I took Johann straight to daycare because it was 7:45.
  • Had a chat with Serenella about the UI for the new index.  I hope I moved it in the right direction.
  • Had shrimp super burritos for dinner.  MUnchkin had quiche.
  • DId skype with mom and Grandma. Grandma looked really good.  She's going out to lunches.  Johann really interacts with mom, or at least knows she sees him.  I took a picture of them on skype together.
  • I hung Johann's blinds, or at least fixed them.  He watched and was interested.  He wanted to play with the tools. I gave him a ratchet screwdriver without the tip in it to play with.
  • He and I had a bath together.  He was a little unhappy at first, the water may have been a bit too hot, but then he was fine, splashing and playing, putting his lips on the water, playing with breathing.  He had a great time, and went to bed pretty willingly.  I always take that as a good sign that he got his fill of time with us.

Monday, March 31, 2014

Today I

  • Up to practice with D 8+.  Lots of starts, then a few 750m pieces.  They seemed really hard to me.  I'm a bit nervous about how much it'll hurt in the race.
  • Home to snuggle with Kel.  Lovely time crawling back in bed with her after rowing in the cold.  She made good on her promises.
  • Tried to get to county clerk today, but failed due to inadequate charge in electric car.  Learned Molly Stones has first hour free, and civic center has a charger. And clerk closes at 4 PM.
  • Found a leak on one of the beam in the living room.  Went outside to seek a source, and felt a puddle on the roof. Went up to the roof, and sure enough, there was a puddle.  So Kel passed me her hair dying towel, and I used it to sop and wring the accumulated water.  I took pictures, will need to send to Janelle. Johann was amused that I was on the house, and Midori was totally freaked out.
  • Ordered in dinner from BJs.  The blue cheese bacon burger is a bit spicy.
  • Johann was up several times during the night.  I think it was teething. I got up with him at 11, 11:20, Kel ws up at midnight, I got up at a bit after 2, and Kel again with him near 3.  We tried everything, can't confirm it's teething or not.

Yesterday I

  • Got up with Johann, then handed him off to his Mom so I could put in my contacts. She made him toast and blueberries for breakfast, and I sat with him at the table and ate cereal.  We played inthe house, and then I took him to the park with the small kid equipment.  I used my gray fleece (found in the car) to dry off slides and swings.  We first went on the little swing, then he played on the toddler tube slide.  He went down a few times, sometimes a little nervous, but figured it out on his own.  He discovered the gear shifts on the jeep cut outs.  Went down the small slide a few times, then over to the chimes for some ringing.  Loves the chimes.
  • Came home, but a nap wasn't in the cards.  Played in the garage in his cardboard house, with Midori following along. He did more pushing of his carts.
  • Kel came home, heated up some quiche for her, and some for me.  Johann came over to me, asking for some, so I proceeded to feed him quiche by hand.  He took down most of my piece, and most of a second piece. On a body weight basis, that's like me eating the whole quiche.
  • I started to replace the blinds in his room.  He was standing in his crib, didn't really like it.  Tried to get him to go down, but no luck.  At one point, he just started to really cry, so I went in and cuddled him.  He was tired and wanted to sleep in my arms, but didn't wan to be put down.  I held him in the big chair, thinking this wasn't a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
  • Eventually gave up on naps, but did some great walking pushing of his cart.  If I support his chest so he can't go too fast forwards, he can walk behind the pusher, and will do it for a few feet.  Progress!
  • Larke & Jon & Griffin came over, with an insulated growler for me for a present.  We had a nice dinner of paella and salad.  Griffin is big, with many words, and walking well. He's a bit of a bruiser with Johann, I think he doesn't play with other kids, or smaller kids.  Johann ended up crying a few times when he was treated roughly.

Saturday, March 29, 2014

Today I

  • Rowed my practice in a very strong rain.  Adrian was missing but we picked him up on the dock after the early warm up.  We practiced formally doing start 5, 5 high, and then shifting up for the next 15.  Were going from 40 on the 5 to 42 for the high.  Feel like we're burning a lot of fuel to do that, but it seems fast.  I'm a bit fearful of the 2k, don't know that I'm as well trained for it as i was last year.  The practice pieces are hard.
  • Did a car switch at the boat house with Kel, and took little man straight home, where I fed him fresh cantaloupe and toast with butter and strawberry jam. He did "monster face" with just a verbal cue while I fed him.
  • I tried to put him down for a nap, but after about 45 minutes he suddenly was crying very loudly.  I went in to find he'd thrown all his snuggy toys out of his crib.  He did not want a nap, so we played.  In the garage, I tried him on his walker toys again, and he managed to push while walking on his knees.  That's better than nothing.  I put the wood one with the clattering alligators in the house with him, and he managed a few actual walking steps behind it.  This is a good sign.
  • Johann took a spill off the futon while playing with me. He reached for one of the pictures of me and Kel standing on the ground, missed, and started to fall/ roll off the futon.  I reached for him, half caught him in his roll, and ended up spinning him to his back for the fall, which means he hit the back of his head, and scooted into another painting.  I sat there for a few seconds, trying to figure out how to help him, as I couldn't move my hands without letting the paining fall on him. I picked him up and held him, and he cried for a while, but snuggled in.  I felt bad.  I don't think it was a bad bump, but I want to be more careful with situations like that, i just need to be in a better position to catch him.  I was too far away, and lying with him meant I couldn't move fast enough.
  • Kel came home with groceries, I helped put those away, changed the head light on my car, and shared my burrito with little man for lunch.  He went down for a nap, and Kel and I napped together, too.  SHe got up before I did (as always, because I sleep for longer) and cooked a ton of food for the week.  Chicken, paella, quiches.  I enticed her to come back to bed with me.
  • Fed mini man a good dinner of chicken, one of his pouches, cheese stick, and avocado.  Kel made an amazing salad with the newly roasted chicken, arugula, blue cheese, avocado, dried cherry, cheery tomato.  It was great.  Johann kept coming by and standing next to me as i ate, so I would pop blue cheese or avocado in his mouth.  He hadn't finished his avocado, but the same avodaco, when mixed in my salad, became interesting.  Kel played the "i can see you" game from the other side of the table, and he laughed.  I crawl followed him down the hall and tickled him.  He laughed.
  • Saw Jay and Dianne for beer and ice cream.  Johann loves their light fixture which is like the wind chime.  He also liked some of the girls books, which are a larger form than is own.  He got to try some vanilla and mint chip ice cream.  He liked them, even though the cold was a bit surprising.
  • Skyped with Andrew tonight, talking about Tesla, cartels, unions. He hopes to Move to LA, is working towards that.  Has temp work for the next 2 weeks.
  • Spent time on the couch with Kelly talking about how important it is to leave some sense of ourselves for the future.  The facebook pictures of the portraits of my great great great grandparents, done int he 1830's has me thinking.  I wonder who they were as people.  I wonder how they thought about things.  I hope this reaches my great great great grandchildren. I hope they'll think well of me, though I'm sure some aspect of my thinking will seem barbaric to them.  I'm doing my best to take care of myself and my family and to make the world better.  It seems hard, there are so many problems, and so many powerful people who are happy with things just how they are.

Friday, March 28, 2014

Today I

  • Went with Kel to Pacific fertility.  Green light to move forwards. Lining is good.
  • Wrote birthday thank you note on my ferry ride back from the city.  Got a chicken pesto sandwich at the farmer's market stand at the ferry terminal.  It was good.
  • Ended up trading with Kel as Johann wanted a bath, but with daddy.
  • McCarthy's Bane Imperial Red was really good and worth sharing.

Thursday, March 27, 2014

Today I

  • Up to row.  Boat went well.  2 x 1500 on the bay + 2 x 800 in the creek. We were concerned the women weren't out of the way of a ferry.  Pieces went OK, but we lost our length once when we tried to go fast without staying long or organized.
  • I got little man out of bed this morning.  He likes his new room configuration, I think.
  • Picked up tiny Man from daycare,a nd has positive confirmation that he understands words.  His first obviously understood phrase: "Monster Face".  He makes his faces upon hearing only the words, without any other cues that that's what's expected.  It's a term he will have learned form us, and only in the last month or so, so it means he probably understands more.  It's really cool, and goes a long way towards making us feel a bit less worried.
  • For some reason, Johann thinks the beer in the door of my keg fridge is hilarious.  I had him in my arms with the door open, and he just died laughing, tried to grab the bottles, pull off their caps.
  • I set up a few tupperware buckets for him to put blocks in.  He played with that a little.  He's more into putting things into and taking them out of other things, so this is better for him to interact with the blocks.
  • I got out his (slightly melted crayons, and spread some user wrapping paper on the hexagonal table for him to try to use the crayons. He understood it a little bit, but kept wanting to eat the crayons.  We moved the operation tot he floor, still limited interest, but we'll keep trying.

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

Today I

  • Up early for SDCC 8+.  Alan missed his alarm so had Muriel from the women's team in 3 in front of me.  It was drizzling as I left the house, so I made sure I had my hat.  As soon as we launched, in the creek, it poured.  Adrian was commenting, which was funny, but didn't make it any easier to just sit and take it before we were really warmed up.  Had a really good 35 at the end of the practice.
  • Home, and Kel and Johann were still in bed.  Crawled back in bed, as i was wet and cold, and had a lovely snuggle with Kelly.
  • It's a bad sign when every conversation with your boss makes you hate your job and want to quit.
  • Kel got a call from jade today about issues with James.
  • Kel skyped with James tonight while I fed and played with little man.  He raided Kelly's feminine supply drawer. He's getting more steady standing up and walking through his gate.
  • Kel and I re-arranged Johann's room today so he'd not by by the door and able to play with the light switch.

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

Today I

  • Did 1 minute on, 1 minute off in a hybrid of the club and D 8.  Joel, Sean, Michael B, me, Raoul, Bob, Mike S, Mike Mc. with Adrian. I think it went well.  Lovely sun rise.  The moon is barely a sliver.  Sky had a lot of pinks.
  • Came home, and everyone was asleep, so I crawled in bed with Kel.  Had some cuddles, then little man woke up.  Kel tended to him, and then brought him in to me, and he and I played in the bed a bit.  He flopped his head on my chest in his hug snuggle attack.  Super cute.  He knows to look form my underwear drawer on the side of the bed, and wants to open it, which he can do.
  • Working on permissions to hire.
  • Kel and I had a long tough chat about her worries right now.  Career, Johann's development, health care, babies.  It's a tough cocktail. The cover California site is awful.  Told her to press a button that wasn't there, kept throwing date format werrors when dates were entered via the sit's own calendar pop up.  Insane.
  • TOnight we have Xana and Sirelei over for dinner.
  • It was super.  Opened very old beers, everyone had a good time.  Lemon rosemary chicken, roasted cauliflour, grilled asparagus, corn bread, which came out well because I used a lot more shortening on the pan. made the edges crispy. Met Sirlei's son, who wants to be a science guy, needs some mentorship.

Yesterday I

  • Saw Kelly leave the house by 6 Am to get her flight for San Diego from Oakland.  She had a one day business trip down there.  She wore black boots and a longer but slightly fitted black skirt and black top.  She looked great.
  • I took Johann to daycare.  He cried when I left, and I felt really bad about it.  Sirlei texted me a smiling picture of him soon after I was home.
  • I figured out which real time indices would be possible for Boroughs and outcodes, and sent that off to the product team.
  • I got Kelly yellow roses with orange edges before picking up Johann.  I took him home, put him in the pack and walked him to the park by the pool. We went on the slide a few times, and eventually the swing.  A 12 month old named Will walked over to us while Johann was sitting by the backpack, rummaging through, taking things out, and putting them back.
  • Johann went on the swing a little, then I put him down on the sand.  He just sat kind of grabbing and digging with his hands for a bit, then started to crawl.  I had to intervene a few times to make sure he didn't try to eat it.  He saw me draw in the sand with a stick, and tried to do the same, and did a decent job.
  • At 6 I packed him up for home, and he got a little fussy when we were most of the way there, so I carried him.
  • Fed little man chicken that Kel had mashed the prior night, along with some vegetable pouch stuff.  He got a little fussy, so I held him and fed him some more.
  • We got on Skype with mom and Grandma.  Grandma's knitting an afghan.  Johann did some cruising down the length of the bench, which both grandma's got to see.
  • He and I took a bath together.  He was a little shy getting in, I think it was too hot.  Then eventually he was done, after I had him lie there a bit without too much support.  It might have scared him a little.
  • I gave him milk and banana yogurt a bit before bed time. He fussed a little, but then settled in.
  • Kel came home about 10, and we stayed up talking for a while.

Today I

  • Felt a bit rough this morning.  Got up when Johann started to stir.  Fed him some oatmeal and milk while Kel went to swim.
  • Took Johann to the grocery store.  He rode in the cart (first time in the cart in the grocery).  I fed him some red raspberries from the container.  He was happy, I just wanted him happier.  I tucked the bananas and lemons in the seat next to him.  He was amused by all the things.  He reached behind him to grab the "pouches" when I put them in the cart, and played with one for the duration of the trip.
  • When I got home, Johann was very patient in his car seat while I unloaded the car.
  • I de-boned some breasts and set aside marinade for lemon rosemary chicken for Tuesday, and also made turkey chili (with chicken bits, too). Kel fed him lunch while I worked.
  • Got a replacement headlight for my car.  WHen I cam back little man was in bed.
  • Kel and I had snuggle time on the bed.  Talked about many things, among them some less than mainstream things, but with some new possibilities.
  • When Bug woke up we put him in the backpack for a short walk to an open house in our neighborhood, then on to the park by the pool, then to Weezie's.  Johann enjoyed the fries, but chipmunked his raspberries. It was funny.
  • At home I cooked while Kel played with little man in the garage.  I suggested she skype her sister.
  • They chatted whith mini man while I finished cooking.  I ended up tutoring Haley with her chem.  pH, ions, titration. I remember a lot.
  • Had Trois Pistoles from Unibroue.  Awesome.
  • Tomorrow Kelly flies to San Diego for a day trip.
